Political party faithful from across Minnesota gathered at schools and other venues to help shape policy and make their picks in this year's elections.
Winona County Republican held their caucus at the Winona Middle School and party chair Rhett Zenke reported a light turnout but he also said a number of resolutions were brought up.
Democrats held their main caucus at Winona High School with other meetings at the different county precincts
Republicans held straw polls in the race for governor and U.S. Senate. Democrats didn't vote because of the certainty of their candidates - Gov. Mark Dayton and U.S. Sen. Al Franken.
Zenke said in Winona County, State Senator Dave Thompson and and Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Thompson tied with 29 votes for governor while former House Minority Leader Marty Seifert came in third with 18.
For U.S. Senate, Republican state Sen. Julianne Ortman was the big winner in the non-binding straw poll in Winona County.
Republicans will next meet on February 22nd at Southeast Tech in Winona for their county convention.....
