The Cochrane-Fountain City School Board meets in a special closed session at 6:30 p.m. tonight to talk legal strategy for opposing a proposed industrial rezone west of school district property in the Town of Milton.
The Buffalo County Land Resources/Zoning Committee planned to hear a presentation from Glacier Sands, LLC, and two landowners Tuesday at the C-FC School.
A county-wide public hearing on the proposed rezone of some 350 acres land from agricultural to industrial use is scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m. also at C-FC school.
The board says it is meeting in closed session today to receive "confidential legal advice" and confer with legal counsel about strategy for "potential litigation" related to the industrial rezone.
The county board plans to vote on the proposed rezone application at a 7 p.m. session scheduled on March 4th.
The school district says an industrial zone for a proposed railway loading facility for frack-sand was incompatible with surrounding land uses and would not benefit the public's interest.
Glacier Sands says it will take measures to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the school and neighboring properties in its development of a rail loading facility that the company says would create jobs, promote economic development and expand tax base.
