Pelowski-Disaster Relief

The Minnesota legislature this year will be asked to approve a proposal authored by Winona Representartive Gene Pelowski that would eliminate the need for a special session to approve disaster relief.

Pelowski told a Winona Radio audience the measure would create a special fund that could be tapped for local communities who experience disasters, such as flooding or storm damage, without calling lawmakers back to St. Paul.

Pelowski said the fund would allow the relief to get to communities quicker and if it was not enough then a special session could be called or it could be delt with during a regular session.

Pelowski will introduce the legislation next week when the session begins.
