Winona Police said five people were jailed early Thursday after they allegedly tried to leave the Winona Walmart store without paying for about $8,000 in electronics merchandise.
Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams said the call came in just after 1:00 a.m. and the five were eventually apprehended along Interstate 90 in the Dover area after they fled in a vehicle.
Williams said the five dropped half of the merchandise outside the store as they fled.
Police are recommending the county attorney's office charge the five with felony theft.
A St. Charles police officer, who had been notified to be on the lookout for the fleeing vehicle, found one bag of merchandise on the interstate near St. Charles that had been runover by another vehicle.
The fleeing vehicle was tracked down and stopped near Dover where another bag of merchandise was recovered.
Five different agencies were involved including Winona Police and the Winona County Sheriff's Department...along with St. Charles police, Olmsted County Sheriff's Department and the Minnesota State Patrol.
The five suspects whose hometowns were not available were identified as: 52-year-old Terry Maurice Hodges...31-year-old Shaun Diante Martin,,,25-year-old Jenny Earlean Johnson...27-year-old Tashanda Jean Boclair...and 23-year-old Marquita Yvonne Maxwell.
