Congressman Tim Walz will be in Winona today to meet with city officials.
The meeting was not publicized ahead of time but the city manager's office confirmed the session that will start at 2:00 p.m. at City Hall.
The Congressman wants to discuss rail issues with city officials according to the city manager's office which said the meeting was organized by Walz himself.
Local opponents of frack sand mining planned a rally outside the City Hall this morning to urge Walz to push for such things as reduced speeds for trains carrying crude oil in rural and city areas from the Bakken oil fields in North Dakota after a train derailed in North Dakota recently causing a huge explosion and extensive damage.
Some of the crude oil trains pass through the heart of Winona which is by the Canadian Pacific tracks.
