A county land resources committee Tuesday morning recommended that the Buffalo County Board of Supervisors deny a petition seeking rezone of some 350 acres to industrial use for a railway spur west of Cochrane-Fountain City School.
The vote was 3 to 1.
Glacier Sands wants an industrial zone for seeking permits to build a loop-shaped railroad spur for a sand load-out facility by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway line.
A project plan also would seek permits to build a road and bridge over wetlands for sand and commodity trucks to access the facility from the junction of state highways 35 and 88 just south of C-FC School.
A resolution on the rezone is scheduled for a vote by the county board at a 7 p.m. meeting on March 4th. The land resources/zoning panel intends to issue the county board a letter recommending denial of the rezone.
The school board also plans to file a letter with the county board protesting the rezone application and advising the county board to vote against it.
