The finishing touches are being placed on Winona State University's new "Floating Classroom."
The 17-foot by 60-foot boat will serve as a resource for the region hosting both educational and social events centered on teaching and learning about the Mississippi River.
The "Calvin R. Fremling" is named after the late longtime Winona State professor and Mississippi River expert biologist.
WSU President Scott Olson says the craft is for both the students and the community and is scheduled to arrive in Winona in June.
WSU will partner with Visit Winona for community-based events.
The WSU Foundation is working with Skipperliner in La Crosse on the boat's design which is being funded by WSU, the WSU Foundation, and private support.
