Winona County authorities say autopsy results on the body of the 57-year-old Winona man found in the backyard of a Rollingstone residence Sunday show the cause of death was extreme blood loss and hypothermia.
Sheriff Dave Brand said they have ruled out that the man, whose name is still being withheld, was struck by a vehicle. He sustained no broken bones.
Brand said witnesses have placed the man at Rollingstone's only bar until about 1:00 a.m. Sunday and a witness reported seeing him walking in the area of the Rollingstone city park after that.
The body was discovered in the backyard of the home abut 3:00 p.m. Sunday. Brand said the man sustained a split ear and a scrape that removed the scalp about the size if three quarters on the back of his head which caused the excessive bleeding.
Brand said his investigators are meeting with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension investigators today (Tuesday 3/18) to further discuss the case.
