A proposed sand mining project in the Town of Buffalo drew opposition from people testifying at a recent Buffalo County Land Resources Committee meeting in Alma.
Although the Buffalo Town Board and residents neighboring the project want the county's Board of Adjustment to deny the project a mining permit, the land resources committee recommended approval of it with conditions.
Quality Sands, owned by Errol Doerr of Buffalo is seeking a conditional-use zoning permit to mine sand and limestone from 22 acres of land at his 159-acre homestead in Piepers Valley in the Town of Buffalo.
A common complaint against the project was that Piepers Valley Road was a narrow town road without shoulders and drainage protection to accommodate trucks hauling sand.
Land resources personnel said it might be May before the Quality Sands mining application is brought to a public hearing in front of the board of adjustment.
