WAPS-Teacher Talks

Teachers in the Winona Public School District have requested mediation as they continue to work out a new contract.

The teachers are currently working under the contract that expired last June 30th.

Superintendent Scott Hannon, who is not involved in the talks, said that salaries and benefits seem to be what is holding up the talks after language with many issues have been settled.

Hannon told a Winona Radio audience the teachers may also be employing some strategy waiting to see settlements in other districts.

A tentative mediation date is scheduled for April 23rd.

That will move the talks behind closed doors and not open to the public.
