Less than week to go before the March 31st deadline to apply for MNsure, and Winona County has been keeping busy processing cases and answering a lot of questions on the phone.
Coordinator Karen Moore says people seem to be having better luck with the MNsure website but there are still major glitches. She says people are still calling with frustrations about the complicated process to sign up.
Moore says when someone in Winona County tries to sign up through MNsure but something such as income or eligibility needs verifying, the case comes back to her and she validates the information.
Moore says the general population who need insurance should start with the MNsure website at MNsure.org and look at the various options. She says if people do not require the medical assistance option the process is working much faster.
Moore says if people in Winona County have special categories, such as applying for home care, skilled nursing facility or you are over 65 and looking into Medicare suppliment programs, call the county.
Officials with Minnesota's health insurance exchange say consumers who make a good faith effort to enroll for coverage by the 11:59 p.m. March 31st deadline but run into problems and can't complete the process will get a reprieve.
