Farm to Foodshelf

Foodshelves across Minnesota may be getting a boost from farmers if a bill authored by State Senator Matt Schmit of Red Wing gets final approval.

Schmit says his Farm to Foodshelf legislation would allow Second Harvest Heartland to build a network of farmers whose unharvested fruits and vegetables would be taken to foodshelves across the state.

Schmit says participation would not be mandatory but the benefit would be getting more food to more people who need it.

The legislation includes a 1.5 million dollar grant to Second Harvest Heartland on behalf of the Feeding America foodbanks that serve Minnesota.....
