With the end of the March Foodshare food drive coming in a few days, the local foodshelves are in need of another boost.
Winona Volunteer Services Executive Director Sandra Burke says the local drive is $8,500 short of its goal of raising $33,000. The food collections are 10,000 pounds short of the 23,000 pound goal.
The drive will officially come to an end on Monday (April 7th) and Burke says if it falls short of its goals there will be less money available to leverage for the purchase of food at lower costs.
Volunteer Services will continue to accept food and cash donations through Monday at its headquarters at 412 East Second Street.
If the goals are not met, the foodshelves will continue to operate, but there will be less food available through the rest of this year.
