5-percent Bill-Miller

A bill providing a funding increase for organizations who serve the disabled community in Minnesota is getting closer to final votes in the House and the Senate.

The five-percent increase had been reduced to four-percent earlier but State Senator Jeremy Miller says the five-percent increase has been restored.

Both the House and Senate have included the funding in their upcoming finance spending bills. However, Miller said he would prefer the funding be in a stand-alone bill.

Advocates for the new spending say it's needed to assure competitive pay and reduce the high turnover among personal caregivers.

Those who will benefit from the raise in Winona include, the Winona County Developmental Achievement Center, Home and Community Options, and the ORC Industries.....
