WSU-Floating Classroom

Members of the media got a sneak preview of Winona State University's new floating classroom during an event Friday in La Crosse.
The one million dollar 'Calvin R. Fremling' was unveiled at Skipper Manufacturing as it nears completion for an arrival in Winona in June.

The 60 foot doubledecker, named for the late WSU professor Cal Fremling, a Mississippi River expert and biologist, is a floating classroom, and according to WSU Vice President for Advancement, Gary Evans, is being outfitted with the latest technology and wi-fi.

Evans said the project is being financed through a combination of methods including a donation from Skipper Manufacturing owner, and WSU alumnus, Jeb Griffith.

Evans says the boat is scheduled to arrive at the Winona Levee Park on June 6th to a special welcome. It will be moored in Levee Park, but eventually a permanent dock will be constructed at the foot of Walnut Street.
