The Winona City Council Monday approved a contract with Mead and Hunt for design engineering work for the final phase of the Winona Municipal Airport runway project.
The next phase of the project is estimated to cost 7.6-million dollars.
Mead & Hunt's Michelle Baird told the board that Phase One of the runway reconstruction and navigation project will begin this summer with Phase Two to be completed by the end of 2015.
Baird says the bulk of Phase Two will be next summer which will shutdown the airport for about 3 months.
Phase One work consists primarily of grading and site preperation. Phase Two will be the actual reconstruction of the primary runway, taxiways, lighting and navigational aids.
