Frack Sand Moratorium

The Land Stewardship Project in Lewiston will present a petition signed by over 5,000 people to Governor Mark Dayton calling for a two-year moratorium on frack sand mining in southeastern Minnesota.

The petition will be given to Dayton on Earth Day, April 22nd, at the state capital.

Project Organizer Bobby King says the signatures have been gathered since a Frack Sand Summit in Winona in January and call for the governor to also create tough regulations for the frack industry and implement community-based renewable energy policies.

A group of citizens will travel by bus to St. Paul on April 22nd, holding press conferences in both Winona and Red Wing, and at the state capital.

While Dayton has come out in favor of a moratorium on frack sand mining in southeastern Minnesota, the legislature has taken no action yet this session.
