The Winona State softball team extended its winning streak to 16 games on Tuesday by sweeping third place Wayne State 5-1 and 3-2 in nine innings. Morgan Lintz drove in the winning run in the second game with a walkoff single in the ninth. Jenny Nelson reached base in her first six plate appearance and then struck out to end an amazing streak in which she reached base safely in 20 consecutive plate appearances.
Winona State improves to 36-6 and they are 19-3 in the NSIC.
The Saint Mary’s softball team was swept by Hamline 5-3 and 2-0. The Cardinals drop to 10-16 and they are 6-10 in the MIAC.
The Cotter softball team crushed the ball Tuesday in beating Rushford-Peterson 24-0 in five innings. Katie Nachtigal hit two homeruns and drove in seven and she now has five homeruns in four games. Hannah Kosel hit a homerun and drove in five and Hannah Spiten crushed a homer and drove in four. Cotter moves to 2-2 on the season.
Winona High lost to Owatonna 7-2 to fall to 1-1.
Sierra Rodgers hit a homerun for C-FC as the Pirates blanked Lincoln 8-0.
Lewiston-Altura drilled Grand Meadow/LeRoy-Ostrander/Kingsland 15-3 and St. Charles was shut out by Caledonia/Spring Grove 7-0.
