Ashley Betzold carried the Saint Mary’s softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Macalester Sunday at the Rosemount Dome. Betzold threw a two-hitter and struck out ten in the first game as the Cardinals shutout Macalester 10-0. Betzold also was 2-3 with a RBI while Mariah Harper and Emily Nelson both drove in two runs.
Betzold went 3-3 and drove in all three runs for the Cardinals in the second game as they won 3-2. Betzold got the win on the mound in the second game also giving up one earned run and seven hits. Macalester finally scored off of Beltzold in the fifth inning of game two and that ended a dominating streak for Beltzold who had thrown 28 consecutive scoreless innings dating back to the Cardinals’ loss to Hamline on April 22nd.
Saint Mary’s was scheduled to host nationally ranked St. Thomas today in Winona but the doubleheader has been moved to the West St. Paul Dome.
