Following a public hearing Monday, the Winona City Plannng Commission unanimously approved a request from Dahl Automotive to rezone some property along Highway 61 to permit a move from downtown Winona.
Andrew Dahl spoke on behalf of the company and told the commissioners the current Dahl downtown location lies in the right-of-way for the highway 43 bridge project forcing the business to move.
Dahl says the 3.4 acres of land currently occupied by the Cornerstone Church is a perfect location because it's just west of Dahl Toyota.
Winona Chamber of Commerce President, Della Schmidt, says Dahl is just the first of several companies who will have to find new locations and the Chamber supports the rezoning.
Several neighbors expressed concerns about the added lighting and noise involved with a new business so close to the residential area. Andrew Dahl says the company will install L.E.D. lighting that will help and they plan to update their phone systems so they no longer have to use a loud speaker on their car lots.
Dahl will bring back a final site plan for approval.
