The Winona City Plannng Commission Monday voted to NOT forward several recommendations for air monitoring at silica sand mining operation sites in the city.
The recommendations were compiled by the local Citizens Environmental Quality Committee.
Commissioner Ken Fritz says he thinks the current pair of air quality monitors on top of the YMCA is adequate for now.
Jane Cowgill is a member of Citizens Against Silica Mining and she says her group is disappointed the commissioners chose not pass along the recommendations to the City Council.
The Winona Citizen's Environmental Quality Committee has recommended that air monitors be installed around Winona to measure the effect that the processing and shipping of frack sand has on air quality.
Commissioner Ed Hahn cast the lone dissenting vote and Commissioners Brian Buelow and Mandi Olson both abstained from the vote.
