Saint Mary's Softball Team Finishes Season Losing to St. Thomas
The Saint Mary’s softball team lost a doubleheader to 16th ranked St. Thomas in the Cardinals’ final games of the season on Monday afternoon. The Tommies dominated the doubleheader winning 10-0 in five innings and 9-0 in five innings. The Cardinals had three hits in the first game and four in the second game. Freshman Ashley Betzold had three of the Cardinals’ seven hits in the doubleheader.
Saint Mary’s finishes the season 14-18 overall and 10-12 in the MIAC and they lose just one senior from this year’s team. Junior Alex Raske led the team in hitting with a .381 average and she had nine doubles and drove in 20 runs. The lone senior, Kristen Thelen, was second with a .359 average and she tied Raske for the team lead in runs scored with 24. Freshman Kathi Opsahl hit .350 with eight doubles and she drove in a team high 24 runs. Freshman Ashley Betzold hit .316 and she was 9-8 on the mound with a 2.57 ERA.
