Winona State To Host Two Major Events This Weekend
There are a couple of big college events that will be happening in Winona this weekend. The 10th ranked Winona State softball team plays host to the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament starting today at Alumni Field. The Warriors are the number one seed in the region and they bring in a 46-7 record. This is the eighth straight NCAA Tournament appearance for Winona State but this is the first time in school history that they will be hosting the region tournament.
This weekend will be a double elimination tournament consisting of four teams, Southern Arkansas, Missouri Western State, Augustana and Winona State. The Warriors will take on eighth seed Southern Arkansas at 1:00 today and fourth seed Augustana plays fifth seed Missouri Western State at 3:30. On Saturday the two winners from today will play at 1:00 and then the two losing teams from today play at 3:30.
Winona State is also hosting the NSIC Track Meet at Paul Giel(Geel) Field today and tomorrow. The events begin at 10:00 a.m. this morning and Saturday’s events begin at 11:00 a.m. Winona State will also host the Warrior Open on Sunday, a final track meet for athletes to try and qualify for the NCAA Division II national meet.
