It has now been confirmed that the Emerald Ash Borer has spread in ash trees in several areas within the Winona city limits.
The EAB was earlier found in SE Minnesota in 2011 and in the Valley Oaks subdivison in Winona this spring.
Assistant City Manager of Public Works, Keith Nelson, says the pest has been identified in neighborhoods on Club View Drive, East Garvin Heights Road and up and down Mankato Avenue.
Nelson says the city continues removal and replacement and ongoing chemical treatments on EAB infested ash trees.
Nelson says the city will receive a $40,000 grant from the Minnesota DNR to help defray the costs of removing and replacing infested trees.
