CapX Funds

Buffalo County's $2.3 million share of CapX environmental funding is mostly going to stay invested for the rest of 2014.

The county board's newly appointed Finance Committee decided to suspend further spending of CapX money until more is known about 2015 budgeting issues.

The 5-member finance panel also wants to set parameters on types of projects the county might consider for funding.

The wish list had climbed above $7 million at last tally, part of the reason the committee has proposed writing specifications to define projects and funding requests eligible for consideration.

The one-time $2.3 million payment came from state environmental impact fees paid by energy companies running new high-powered transmission lines through parts of Buffalo County.

Up to $500,000 of CapX money has already been committed to cost of replacing a courthouse heating system.
