Kirch Parole Denied

The former Goodview man who is serving a life sentence in the death of a Winona County Deputy in 1980 had his application for parole denied Monday.

The Minnesota Department of Corrections' Lifer Review Panel ruled that 67-year-old John Kirch is eligible to apply for parole again in three years.

Kirch was convicted of killing Deputy John Schneider at a home in the Lake Village Mobile Home Park in September of 1980.

Schneider and two other deputies responded to a domestic situation and Schneider was shot by Kirch as Schneider and the other deputies entered the home.

Kirch was sentenced to life in prison.

The Schneider family was on hand for the hearing Monday and opposed Kirch's release.

Kirch continues to be held at the prison in Stillwater.
