The Winona County Republican Party is disappointed to hear that a candidate has decided to challenge Aaron Miller in the August primary for the chance to unseat the Democrat Congressman Waltz in November.
County Republican Chair Rhett Zenke issued a statement saying Aaron Miller is a fine candidate who won endorsement at the First District Convention held last month.
Jim Hagedorn, who announced Sunday he will get back into the race, was a part of that process, but was unable to secure enough support to win endorsement, and stepped aside when he saw that defeat was inevitable.
Hagedorn stated at that time the opponent was the incumbent congressman, Walz, and wanted unity after the convention adjourned.
Zenke said Hagedorn may have had a change of heart, but Republicans in Winona County have not. Aaron Miller is their candidate to run in the fall and Winona County Republicans stand ready to help Miller win the seat.
