With a public forum coming up Wednesday on a proposal to construct at new baseball field in Lake Park, the City of Winona has been fielding questions about why WSU's softball field nearby is kept locked when not in use.
City spokesman Chad Ubl told a Winona Radio audience that even though the land on which the field sits is owned by the city, the field is kept locked in order to prevent any damage to the field.
Ubl said it's the same policy used for the pavilions around the lake where the public needs a permit from the city to reserve them.
The same policy will be in use for the new baseball field if one is built. Winona State will lease both fields from the city for its own use. Public use will be allowed when WSU is finished with them.
To use the softball field number one now, you need to contact the Recreation office in City Hall.
