A few candidates for local office formally filed for the November election Tuesday during the opening day of filings for public office.
Ron Ganrude officially entered the race for Winona County sheriff to replace the retiring Dave Brand. Ganrude has been chief deputy for nearly 16 years under Brand. Three other sheriff's department members have also indicated they will file for the post.
Incumbent Wayne Valentine filed for a second 4-year term on the Winona County Board representing the second district. Valentine indicated once again he will finance his own campaign and will not accept any monetary contributions.
Two other board members, Marcia Ward and Jim Pomeroy, have indicated they will also run for-re-election.
Two candidates filed for re-election to the Winona City Council including longtime 4th district councilman George Borzykowski and at-large representative Michelle Alexander who is seeking a second 4-year-term.
Second ward councilman Gerry Krage has also indicated he will run again after being first elected in 1986.
In Goodview, Mayor Steve Baumgart filed for a second 2-year-term. At-large councilman Mike Alexander filed for another 4-year-term. Dick Ledebuhr is also up for re-election to his at-large position.
Four incumbents are up for re-election to the Winona Area Public School Board.
