The City of Winona says a decision Wednesday by the city's Board of Adjustment actually approved the construction of an above-ground flammable liquids storage tank for Cytec Industries.
The final vote was 4-to-2 in favor of the permit for the tank. A city staffer thought five yes votes were needed for final approval but determined Thursday only four yes votes were actually needed for approval.
The approval means Cytec Industries can move forward with its 12 million dollar expansion project that is expected to bring some 60 or more new jobs to the city.
Mayor Mark Peterson said Thursday he is supporting the expansion.
Neighbors to the plant on West Third Street had protested the new tank saying they were concerned about safety.
