The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development has awarded a $300,000 grant to Minnesota State College-Southeast Technical to train 410 employees of TRW Automotive in Winona.
The grant will support training to upgrade the skills of the current workforce and prepare new workers for the production floor. Employees will be able to earn credit-based degrees, diplomas, and hourly-based certificates from Minnesota State College-Southeast Technical.
New courses will enhance Minnesota State College-Southeast Technical's curriculum, and the school will market the training to the auto industry and potential students.
TRW-Winona is the lead candidate in the award of major contracts by the top three U.S. vehicle manufacturers, and the training anticipates future production demands. The company employs about 250 employees and plans to hire 150 new workers over the next two years.
The grant was awarded under the agency's Minnesota Job Skills Partnership Program. and leverages nearly $624,000 from TRW.
