Winona Port Funding

The City of Winona is hoping to get some of the funds contained in the 2014 bonding bill for the city's new dock in the commercial harbor.

The state legislature earmarked $400,000 in the bill for all the river ports in Minnesota for improvements.

Economic Development Director Lucy McMartin said the city will apply for funds to help pay for placement of a concrete cap over the new dock. The cap would allow for a heavier lift zone on the dock.

McMartin said the entire cap is estimated to cost between $450,000 and $500,000 and the project is scheduled for 2015.

McMartin said if not enough funds are obtained initially for the project, the city will apply again for more money next year from the port fund.
