A third person has filed for the second district seat on the Winona County Board of Commissioners forcing an August 12th, primary election.
Frack sand mining activist Marie Kovecsi has filed for the seat being currently held by Wayne Valentine who is seeking re-election to a second 4-year-term.
That, coupled with the filing of Jerry Moen, whom Valentine defeated in 2010, means a primary election will need to be held.
In a filing statement, Kovecsi said she is not satisfied with the way the needs of the people in District 2 have been represented. She says she is deeply concerned about the health, safety, and quality of life, especially when some five frack sand industries may appear next door to the district's neighborhoods.
The filing deadline is Tuesday.
As of Monday afternoon no candidates had filed to run against county board incumbents Jim Pomeroy and Board Chair Marcia Ward.
