SWCD Merger

Winona County Commissioners have agreed to supply answers to questions from the County Soil and Water Conservation District  before considering whether the district should be merged under the county.

County Board Chair Marcia Ward called it the first piece of the solution to the district's need for more funds to continue operations.

Questions centered on whether the four conservation district staff members would have to join a county union and need job classifications and the impact on their salaries.

The cost of preparing job descriptions would cost upwards of  $2,000.

Interim County Administrator Maureen Holte estimated it will take two to three weeks to bring the information back to the board before any further discussion takes place.
