The public is invited to attend the 25th Anniversary Celebration for the Whitewater River Watershed Project on Thursday, June 12th.
The celebration will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Whitewater State Park Visitor Center, 19041 Highway 74, Altura (4 miles SW of Elba on Hwy 74).
The Whitewater Watershed Middle Branch Pilot Project began in 1987 to address erosion and sedimentation issues.
In 1989, Olmsted, Wabasha and Winona Counties formalized the work of the Whitewater River Watershed Project by creating the Whitewater Joint Powers Board to direct its activities. Its mission is to nurture a land ethic through expanded conservation work. The project focuses on improving water quality, reducing sedimentation and flooding, and improving habitat for all plants and animals.
