Two more candidates filed for Winona County Sheriff Tuesday swelling the list to six.
Retired Winona police officer Gary Hoeppner filed on the final day along with former Sheriff's Deputy Rod Hansen. Hansen retired from the sheriff's department several weeks ago and previously lost twice to current sheriff Dave Brand in elections in 2006 and 2010. Hoeppner served with the police department for 25 and a-half years.
Previously filing for sheriff was Deputy Bill Spitzer and three other members of the department forcing a primary election in August. Others running include investigators Rob Averbeck and Kraig Glover, along with Chief Deputy Ron Ganrude.
Spitzer will retire as St. Charles mayor at the end of this year.
