The City of Hayfield is planning improvements to its wastewater treatment plant that will benefit downstream waters including the Zumbro River.
The project requires the preparation of a review called an Environmental Assessment Worksheet. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is accepting comments on the worksheet and draft permits through June 25th.
The proposed project will almost double the plant's capacity to treat wastewater, to seven hundred eighty thousand gallons per day. The additional upgrades will result in less phosphorus and bacteria in the discharge, helping decrease these pollutants in the Zumbro River, Zumbro Lake, and other downstream waters.
