VA Prosecutions

Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar joined a bipartisan group of Senators in calling on the Department of Justice to immediately investigate evidence of criminal wrongdoing at Department of Veterans Affairs medical facilities.

In a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder, the Senators underscored that while the VA Inspector General is currently conducting an inquiry, the Department of Justice must play a leadership role in the criminal investigation.

Klobuchar recently co-sponsored bipartisan legislation to boost accountability at the Department of Veterans Affairs which, she says, would help bring accountability to the system and better serve veterans by authorizing the VA to replace senior officials found responsible for mismanagement and mistreatment of veterans.

Although the VA Inspector General  has consulted with the Department of Justice, the Senators urge that federal investigators and attorneys assume a leadership role to assure that anyone responsible for abuses is held accountable through criminal prosecution.
