River Rescue

The Fillmore County Sheriff's Department says Chatfield firefighters rescued seven people who got caught in fast currents while tubing Sunday on the Root River.

Sheriff Daryl Jensen said the Chatfield Fire Department pulled three adults and four children, ages 7-10, from the Root River. Chatfield Ambulance transported one child who suffered minor injuries.

Jensen said no one in the group had life jackets. Jensen said the group experienced problems with the high water and rapid current and at least one tube was cut when it got tangled in a tree.
