It's a common scam but it seems to have reared its ugly head in Trempealeau County these days.
Sheriff Richard Anderson says his office has received complaints of some county residents being approached by traveling home improvement businesses seeking backtopping or seal coating work at a reduced rate.
The company claims to have leftover material from other jobs they want to get rid of.
The complaints have included inflated pricing, poor job quality, no warranty, or guarantee, along with no bills of sales or contracts.
Anderson says those normal home improvement businesses are regulated by the State of Wisconsin. If you are contacted by such a business, know that reputable companies will complete a work order along with a written contract, and a cost estimate,
Anyone be approached by a questionable company should contact the Trempealeau County Sheriff's Department.
The same thing goes for anyone in the Winona area...but report such activity to the Winona County Sheriff's Department.
