Dr. Dorothy Duran becomes the eighth president of Minnesota State College - Southeast Technical on Tuesday.
She comes to Southeast Technical from Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, where she served as vice president for academic affairs from 2006-2014. Previously, she served at Northern New Mexico College as dean/director of the El Rito campus from 1998 to 2006.

Duran holds a bachelor's degree in English and sociology and a master's degree in educational foundations from the University of New Mexico. As a Kellogg Fellow, she earned her Ph.D. in 1988 at the University of Texas-Austin's Community College Leadership Program.

Following a national search, Duran was named president of Southeast Tech in March by the Board of Trustees of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system.

Duran succeeds Jim Johnson, who served as Southeast Technical's president from 1995 until now. Johnson said..."I am leaving the college in the hands of a great leader in Dr. Dorothy Duran."
