Winona County authorities want the public to know that a cold case involving the discovery of the body of a newborn infant floating in the Mississippi River almost three years ago is still open and active.
Sheriff Dave Brand says the body of the baby, who authorities dubbed 'Baby Angel'. was found by a passing boater in the river in the Homer area south of Winona on September 5th, 2011.
An extensive investigation was conducted by both local authorities and the Minnesota state crime lab, but the case remains unsolved.
The infant was found in a plastic bag floating in the river and was just a few days old.
Brand said law enforcement has not closed the case and authorities, along with Winona Area Crime Stoppers, is seeking the public's help in solving the case.
