The bicycle path on the levee under Winona’s Highway 43 bridge will be closed beginning the week of July 21st so the contractor can begin construction work to build a new bridge across the Mississippi River.
Weather permitting, construction on the Winona Bridge project will begin that same week. The bike trail closure is expected to last until late 2019.
The contractor, Ames Construction, will be closing the path (part of the Levee Park-Prairie Island Loop) to maintain public safety due to construction on the bridge. Demolition will be taking place around the path, and heavy equipment will be using the trail to access the construction staging area.
Bicyclists should detour from Johnson Street to Second Street to Riverview Drive.
The section of the bike trail from Riverview Drive to the bridge, which will be used as construction access, will be rebuilt as part of the project and re-opened following construction.
