A Black River Falls company has applied for a conditional-use permit and a variance to continue a sand dumping project on agricultural land in rural Nelson.
Hoffman Leasing Company filed an application to the Buffalo County Board of Adjustment for a conditional-use permit to dispose of river sand on about 25 acres of land in the town of Nelson.
Hoffman Construction Company has a joint venture contract with J.F. Brennan Company of La Crosse, to get rid of some 500,000 cubic yards of stockpiled sand dredged by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers upriver from Alma.
A work stoppage was ordered by Buffalo County after the county board and land resources department ruled that a zoning permit issued for the Nelson project in February was not valid.
Land Resources Director Julie Lindstrom issued a stop order on the Nelson project a day after the county board met with lawyers in closed session and later voted unanimously in favor of its finding that the dredged sand projects needed conditional-use permits.
The board of adjustment has scheduled a public hearing on the zoning applications for 3:30 p.m. on July 22nd in the county courthouse at Alma.....
