Winona has been selected as one of 10 finalists in "The Way to Wellville," a national competition to find five communities to participate over five years for the greatest improvement in five measures of health.
The initiative is sponsored by a nonprofit founded by angel investor Esther Dyson to encourage community-led innovation that results in healthier people and places.
Winona was chosen as a finalist from 42 community applications across the U-S.
Winona Health President and CEO Rachelle Schultz says The Way to Wellville project aligns with the missions and collaborative work already underway among many Winona organizations.
The next step in the selection process will be a site visit.
The five Wellville communities selected to participate in the five-year challenge will be announced sometime in August.
