About $100,000 of CapX2020 environmental funds received by Buffalo County have been set aside for trout stream habitat restoration projects.
The finance committee of the Buffalo County Board of Supervisors was told it could double its money for trout habitat through a state cost-sharing program that would match funds designated for stream improvements.
Buffalo County received 2.3 milliom dollars in environmental fees paid to Wisconsin by power companies building a 345-kilovolt-transmission line through Buffalo and Trempealeau counties.
Finance supervisors also agreed to use $15,000 of CapX funds to help pay for a geothermal heating unit at a county humane association animal shelter under construction at Mondovi.
The finance committee authorized the expenditure, pending final approval by the Wisconsin Public Service Commission.
