The Wisconsin State Patrol says there was one fatality in a multiple vehicle crash Thursday morning on I-90 near French Island.
WXOW TV reports that two people were taken by ambulance from the scene. One of the people transported had life threatening injuries while the second person had non-life threatening injuries.
It appeared that traffic had slowed in the eastbound lane of traffic for drivers to merge onto I-90 from Exit 2 at French Island. From their early investigation, the trooper said a dump truck didn't slow down and struck a car from behind, which in turn caused a chain reaction involving five other vehicles.
Both the dump truck and car went off the road and into the median where they caught fire after the crash. The other vehicles involved were pushed to both sides of the road.
It took several hours to re-open I-90 in each direction while the scene was cleared.
