It may seem like work on the construction of the new Highway 43 bridge project in Winona has not yet started, but it has.
Project Manager Terry Ward said crews have begun removing trees on the north side of the bridge on Latsch Island in preparation for constructing the bridge approach. Ward told Winona Radio News after that work is completed sheeting work will be undertaken for a docking facility.
He said work on the Winona side of the bridge is still a few weeks away.
Ward also said the project is not expected to be impacted by the backup of barges and towboats caused by the filling in of sediment in the main channel of river.
He said Ames Construction, the general contractor, was able to move equipment and its barges to Winona from Dresbach starting on Saturday...but it took four days to get the equipment here.
Ames construction is also constructing the new bridge in Dresbach on Interstate 90.
