Rochester Senior Living

Construction is wrapping up on a new senior living community in Rochester.

Minnesota Public Radio News reports that the assisted living apartments and a memory care facility are part of the city's senior housing boom spurred by the Mayo Clinic's growth.

The hospital plans a $5 billion expansion over 20 years. That includes $327 million in state aid.

The city is expected to gain 32,000 residents in the next two decades. Many of them will be seniors who want to be closer to medical care.

Three other Rochester senior communities are planning to expand or are under construction. Olmsted County currently has 44 senior housing developments.
