A 43-year-old Nelson, Wis., man with a history of drunken driving arrests and other crimes was sentenced to 13 months in prison for reckless driving in a high-speed car crash that severely injured a 16-year-old passenger last October.
Buffalo County Circuit Judge James Duvall sentenced Robert Burda for causing great bodily harm to a Mondovi girl who suffered 3rd degree burns to her neck, scalp, shoulder and back as well as multiple lacerations.
Burda was driving at more than 80 miles an hour on County Highway D in the Town of Nelson when he lost control, went off the roadway and the car rolled over three times last October 13th.
Two 18-year-old girls also were passengers in the car. The 16-year-old riding in the back seat was ejected from the car and was found trapped under the wreckage, according to traffic officers.
Charges of 4th offense operating while intoxicated, possession of methamphetamine and causing injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle were dismissed as part of a plea agreement, but were entered in the record for sentencing.
Burda's past record included drunken driving offenses, operating after license revocation, theft and endangering safety.
Duvall's sentencing order called for paying $1,770 restitution and serving 24 months of extended probation supervision after release from prison.
